Sustainable machining: environmental performance analysis of turning
نویسندگان
چکیده
The manufacturing sector accounts for 40% and 25% of global energy resources consumption respectively. Machining is one the most power-intense operations in making a significant contribution to environmental footprint. purpose this study identify key parameters that contribute towards impacts conventional turning. A set experiments was designed using Taguchi L9 method. Experiments were performed analyse electrical consumption, metalworking fluid (MWF) surface roughness, material removal rate during turning AISI P20 with both wet dry machining. life cycle assessment (LCA) conducted assess performance multi-response optimisation optimum operating conditions. results show machining yields better compared LCA reveal highest contributor under impact categories, while effect MWF negligible. use workpiece cutting insert significantly aquatic ecosystem resource depletion damage categories. Further, proposed considering impact.

Towards sustainable machining of 17-4 PH stainless steel using hybrid MQL-hot turning process
The use of a minimum quantity of lubrication (MQL) with extremely low consumption of lubricant in machining processes has been reported as a technologically and environmentally feasible alternative to conventional flood cooling. In hot machining, the external heat source is applied during machining that will assist to increase machining performance. Many external heating techniques are availabl...
متن کاملAn Environmental Analysis of Machining
This paper presents a system-level environmental analysis of machining. The analysis presented here considers not only the environmental impact of the material removal process itself, but also the impact of associated processes such as material preparation and cutting fluid preparation. This larger system view results in a more complete assessment of machining. Energy analyses show that the ene...
